Ok...think that homeschooling is easy? Think that it is all about putting in a video tape and kicking back watching them learn? You haven't really tried homeschooling! I know I had the misconception early on in the homeschooling phenomenon (years ago) that this is what homeschooling was all about. I was horrified at the thought of homeschooling - after all, children need instruction - not videos while Mama sleeps in...they need to hear teachers, not sit and read textbooks while Mama cleans house!
Well, homeschooling has come a long way since that early misconception... homeschooling my boys is the love of my life and a passion in our household! I love watching their "ah ha" moments where they learn something new, apply some truth or hear some insight for the first time! I love watching them discover how things work and figure out complex problems on paper.... they get it - and I get to be a part of it!
The downside - (just kidding!), homeschooling the sons of a Preacher! They have so many questions, doctrinal curiosities and complex theological insights that they want to discuss - ok...maybe not! But we really do have the opportunity for great discussions! Last year we were able to study early world history while reading through the Old Testament and watching how they overlap/interact. What an incredible opportunity! Ready for today's discussion? The best way to explain the Trinity - understanding God the Father as Jehovah God, Jesus the Son as our Redeemer and the Holy Spirit as our Comforter, guidance and peace. Try that one on for size! There are times that homeschooling needs to wait until Daddy gets home!
