My "S" Child is Stuck!

Ok...in our review of personality styles and how they impact teaching our children, we have looked at the "D" or "dominant, determined and directive" personality, the "I" or "influencial, imaginative and infectious" personality and now we come to the "S" personality style! The "S" is the steady, secure, selectively social, suspicious, steadfast person. These are the people that hold any group of people together and try to get everyone to get along. We refer to them as the "glue" that holds groups together and keeps the others from killing each other! The "S" personality is "people" oriented, but does not want the center stage or even large groups of people around - they are the one that chooses one -on - one friendships that will stay in touch and truly be a friend for 40 - 50 years. When an "S" asks you how you are doing today, they actually slow down to really listen and find out - they really want to know! "S" people desire security and do not like change, they like routines and schedules and, if something does have to change, they need time to get used to the idea before it happens - don't spring it on them...it throws them off! The "S" adult can hold the same job, doing the same thing everday for 40 years and be perfectly happy about it. When dealing with "S" children in your homeschool setting or daily life, remember, they genuinely care about people and conflict between anyone upsets them - even if they are simply a witness to it. If they are corrected or redirected in any way, they need reassurance that you are not upset with them or that the relationship is still ok. Words must be chosen carefully when dealing with an "S" because they take everything to heart and words cut deeply...and they don't get over it quickly! Your "S" personality is one who wants everyone recognized and heard, needs reassurance that a wrong answer or a bad grade doesn't change your love for them and needs consistent scheduling and routines. Without this, this child remains in a state of stress... See if you can find which one is the "S" personality...hint, he is the calm, cool, collected one that always seems to take care of everyone!

By the way, can you figure out what Barney's personality is? Hint, he is emotional, enjoys attention of the crowd, and always has a plan!
